Botox Injections
What are they?
Botox is a botulinum A toxin designed to help
eliminate or improve persistent facial wrinkles. The non-surgical procedure
commonly treats areas like frown lines between eyebrows, “crow’s feet,” and
creases on the forehead through a number of tiny needle
injections.
Who will benefit from Botox injections?
Any
person with all sorts of facial conditions, like smile lines, frown lines and
deep facial furrows.
What will the evaluation involve?
During
your evaluation by one of the physicians at the Facial Surgery Center, a
detailed history will be taken, your skin will be examined thoroughly and your
skin goals will be discussed. After that, you and your physician will talk about
your specific treatment plan. Treatment is given through a few simple injections
under the surface of the skin, to help “fill out” and smooth away lines or
wrinkles, acne scars or other facial lines. You see the improvements
immediately.
What will the treatment involve?
A local
anesthetic is used to numb the area. The physician will give you a series of
small injections with a very fine needle along the lines that you are having
treated. The procedure usually takes 15 minutes to ½ hour. You will be able to
return to work in the same day without embarrassment.
Side
effects?
Depending on where Botox is injected, side effects may include
headache, respiratory infection, flu-like symptoms, droopy eyelids and nausea.
Temporary bruising on the injection site is also common. Facial pain, redness at
the injection site and muscle weakness are less frequent
reactions.
How often will I have to be
treated?
Everyone’s skin is different, so the timing of any new treatment
varies from person to person. Also you may wish to combine Botox with other
treatments, so talk to your physician to plan your own personal treatment.
